Huachiew Chalermprakiet University Launches Sustainable Commuting Initiative to Reduce Campus CO2 Emissions Samutprakarn, Thailand – August 14, 2023 —

Huachiew Chalermprakiet University (HCU) has expanded its sustainable commuting options for students, faculty, and staff, advancing its mission to reduce campus carbon emissions and promote environmentally friendly travel. Aligned with the university’s Policy on Energy and Energy Conservation 2022 and the Strategic Plan for 2022-2036, the initiative aims to support sustainable commuting on campus by offering free, eco-friendly transportation options.

To kick off the 2023 academic year, HCU has introduced a fleet of bicycles, vans, and electric vehicles to the campus. These resources are available to all university members, encouraging the community to leave private vehicles at home, reduce CO₂ emissions, and contribute to a cleaner, greener campus environment. The dedicated bicycle lane allows students and staff to travel safely and sustainably within the university, while shaded walkways encourage walking as a viable commuting option. Additionally, vans are available to shuttle students and teachers between the main campus and an annex located one kilometer away.

This initiative is part of HCU’s ambitious Strategic Plan 2022-2036, which includes a targeted reduction of campus CO₂ emissions by 80% within the first decade, with a long-term goal of achieving zero emissions by 2036. By implementing free, accessible, and sustainable transportation options, HCU actively supports its vision for environmental stewardship and reduces the university’s overall environmental impact.

The introduction of eco-friendly transportation facilities strengthens HCU’s commitment to sustainable development, reducing vehicle congestion, improving air quality, and promoting a culture of environmental awareness on campus. HCU’s comprehensive approach to sustainable commuting underscores its dedication to creating a low-carbon campus, fostering community health, and leading by example in the journey toward a sustainable future.
