Huachiew Chalermprakiet University and Poh Teck Tung Foundation Collaborate on Mobile Health and Social Clinic to Promote Sustainable Development and Community Well-being through Student Volunteerism Samutprakarn, Thailand - On April 28, 2024, —

The Poh Teck Tung Foundation’s Social Welfare Department, in partnership with Huachiew Chalermprakiet University’s Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Physical Therapy, Faculty of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Faculty of Medical Technology, Faculty of Public and Environmental Health, and Faculty of Social Work and Welfare, organized its 220th mobile health clinic. This biannual initiative contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by addressing SDGs 1 (No Poverty), 2 (Zero Hunger), 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 10 (Reduced Inequality), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).

The Poh Teck Tung team was led by Ms. Naowarat Wannasiri, Head of the Community Medical Unit, while Mr. Chalong Khwaeng-in, Vice President of Student Affairs, led Huachiew Chalermprakiet University’s delegation. This collaboration mobilized a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, faculty, and student volunteers who delivered vital health and social services to the community at Wat Hua Khu Temple in Bang Sao Thong District, Samut Prakan Province.

Services provided included general medical consultations, diabetes screenings, distribution of prescription eyeglasses, hygiene training, gender equality consultations, and dental care—all free of charge. In total, 255 residents benefited from the program: 61 received general medical treatment, 11 were screened for diabetes, 147 were provided with prescription eyeglasses, and 36 received dental care, which included 10 extractions, 21 fluoride applications, and 5 oral health consultations.

Through active student participation, this initiative strengthens practical skills, empathy, and a commitment to social responsibility among students, equipping them to make impactful contributions to public health and social well-being. This project exemplifies Huachiew Chalermprakiet University’s dedication to fostering sustainable development through community-centered, student-led service.
